Educational History
Doctor of Philosophy in Mechatronics – (Mar 2007)
Awarded full faculty scholarship
Loughborough University,
Leicestershire, LE11 3TU, U.K.
Ph.D. Title: “Intelligent automotive safety systems: The Third Age challenge”
Supervisor: Professor of R. M. Parkin and Mr. Andrew J. Taylor
Project synopsis:
- Investigated means of identify driver postures, movements and behaviours which indicate a high level of risk, particularly for older and impaired drivers
- Developed and evaluated a safety system which used low resolution infrared thermal imager.
- The developed safety system is able to identify eighteen (18) different driver postures and behaviour using novel image processing and artificial neural network design.
- The developed safety system evaluation involved extensive study of driver posture, experimentation on driving simulator and eventually involved placing the safety system in a real car.
Masters of Science in Mechatronics – (Sep 2003)
MSc. Final thesis title: “Automated people counting system using Low-resolution infrared imager and visual camera”
Loughborough University,
Leicestershire, LE11 3TU, U.K.
First division (award) 67%
Bachelors of Engineering in Mechanical – (May 2002)
NED University of Engineering and Technology,
Karachi, Pakistan
First Division (award) 73%
Design Engineer skills
- Created assembly drawings, including bills of material and detail drawings of gear boxes, roll forming machinery, and pipe manufacturing machinery using Solidworks 2005.
- Designed assemblies, detail drawings of plastic Injection moulds up to 150 tonne injection moulding machine utilizing CMM, Digitizing Arms on Rhino, Solidworks and Pro/Engineer.
- Created cutting, drawing and punching dies for sheet metal parts using above mentioned solid modellers.
- Countless assemblies and detail drawing are created on Autocad 2D and 3D.
- Used MoldFlow as an analysis tool while designing the plastic injection moulds.
- Used surface analysis techniques before CNC machining to get Class A surface for plastic parts used in automotive industry.
- CNC Programming of the designed parts and cavities using MasterCAM.
- Worked 6 years with first tier automotive vendor (oem) company.
Brief summary of skills
Mechanical Design and job shop skills
Advance level of experience in AutoCAD and Rhino3D. At least 6 years of experience. Rhino is similar command driven system as AutoCAD but it is much more powerful 3D Surface modeller.
Intermediate level of skill in Solid Modellers like Pro/Engineer Wildfire Series and SolidWorks. With an experience equivalent to 2 years. Familiar and trained on FEA softwares like Moldflow, ANSYS, Patran, ADAMS. Solidmodellers used seldom during training are Unigraphics NX and Solid Edge.
Intermediate level of skill in MasterCAM and SurfCAM for machining dies and moulds.
Programmed and operated CNC Machining Centre 16-ATC with Fanuc-OM on a DNC network. Programmed and operated CNC Wire-Cut with UV Axis (for 6 years).
Have good skills in machinery design and resolving mechanical design problems. Develop detailed drawing for dies and moulds in busy a jobshop enviornment.
Experience of setting up Gear Hobbing machinery for cutting spur and Helical gears.
Imaging algorithm and software development
Advance working knowledge of MATLAB, image processing toolbox and neural network toolbox.
Have used MATLAB, Image Pro Plus and LabWindows/CVI for Machine Vision, Artificial Intelligence, hardware / serial based Interfacing. Other programming environments used are C#, C++, C, Assembly and Visual Basic.
